This is one of the most promising methods for diagnosing cancers, as well as heart and neurological diseases.
Development of a federal network of nuclear medicine diagnostic centres in Russia
The prevalence of cancer in Russia is particularly preoccupying. According to a report of the Russian Health Ministry, in 2010 the cancer mortality rate had increased by 13.8% over the last 10 years. Furthermore, in 19 out of the 88 administrative subjects of the Russian Federation this rate is 10% higher than the average rate for the country as a whole. The morbidity rate is of 333.7 for 100’000 inhabitants. Over 2.5 million patients are registered in cancer clinics, representing 1.8% of the overall population of the country. In 60% of cases, the disease is diagnosed at stages III-IV. The economic losses due to cancer are estimated at over 90 billion roubles per year.
